Projekttag „Thanksgiving dinner“

One week before Thanksgiving (15.11.23) we met in the kitchen of Carpe Diem School with Mr Hoffmann and Mr Polgar. The plan was a big dinner with turkey (we had chicken) and sweet potato casserole plus Marshmellows (not liked by everybody ;). For dessert, Constantin and a fellow student chopped apples for a delicious apple crisp.

Thanksgiving is an American festival in late November. Americans celebrate it as a family feast. Thanksgiving is bigger than Christmas in the US.

Like in America, we said "thank you for the food, for the family, for friends, for the playstation and for the animals we eat" and more.

We made Pilgrim and Native American puppets for decoration.

Pilgrims were from England. They wanted a better life in America. They came in 1620. The Native Americans (Columbus named them Indians) helped the newcomer Pilgrims with houses, hunting and planting maize after a very cold and harsh winter.

But the newcomers in 1700, 1800 and 1900 were not so friendly to the Native Americans. They took the land and the Native Americans moved west and became poor.

So saying thank you to the Native Americans was only right for the first years in the 1620s.
